I'm sooooo jealous, but I can wait for my Orpy.
Gonna see if my mum will get me one for birthday, i'm also collecting some girl's tomorrow... already mentioned everywhere else, so why not here too? lol
But Silkies would be my 2nd choice over the Orpy, sorry.
They are lovely little things...but if I'm not mistaken...broody little girls!!
I think that's why a lot of people keep them Bephlam, cos they go broody at the drop of a hat and mke excellent mothers!
My Majesty made for him a garden anew in order to present to him vegetables and all beautiful flowers.- Offerings of Thutmose III to Amon-Ra (1500 BCE)
The chap we're going to collect our hens from tomorrow sells Silkies crossed with a light Sussex, they still go broody all the time, make excellent mothers and you don't have all the fluff to deal with. Apparently he can't hatch enough of them. Oh, and crossing them makes sexing them easier as it's apparently quite difficult with Silkies to tell the boys from the girls.
Into each life some rain must fall........but this is getting ridiculous.

They are very beautiful, but taking into account how stressed I feel, only a week into a broody hen, that's why I'm avoiding being taken in by their beauty!
Hope it all goes well tomorrow(today)Tina...they make wonderful pets too apparently.
the fates lead him who will;him who won't they drag.
Happiness is not having what you want, but wanting what you have.xx
OOOOH! silkies are so cute. that's what I would have gone for had I not had the family to try to get interested in eggs/chook keeping ( bigger eggs!!!). they just look like Dr.Seuss birds to me.Does anyone remember Dr.Seuss and the strange creatures that lived in his world?
Ah Yes Broodies but I am not bothered about eggs, just want a sweet looking pet lol
Although now you've said it a few times , that they go broody is that a bad thing if I dont want them to hatch eggs?? Ya know the broodiness for their health I mean? Thx

ahhh just done some quick reading, broodies can get neglegted with water and food if sat brooding and a broody cage can be made to stop them basicly! Thx

Right, Chickadee, I'm holding you personally responsible for this. Y'know I was talking about Sussex silkie crosses, well darn me if they aren't the cutest things ever. Naturally I wanted one, but the chap only had growers and it would have had to be kept separate from the older hens... and you can't leave a young hen on its own, can you?
Bluemoon yes but they r so cute and you'll thank me one day! lol
This is 'Mary' errr scary miss mary to the other chooks, me thinks! She's sat in the doorway and the others wont go past her, will have to put them all to bed manually at this rate! lol

I just realised how clean my chook house is! I must be like Hyacinth Bouquet!
Either that or I got OCD, sorry I don't mean it to say that I think anyone else's is dirty or anything, but it would drive me nuts if I had that much poo to be seen.
Even to the point where I hose the poo that they do on the grass, into the mud and wash/spread it around, so the grass can last a bit longer... Daily!!!
*Hangs head* My name is Sheena and i'm a cleaning freak! I'll get me coat.
PS what I originally wanted to say was "Spot the odd one out?" but got side tracked. She is beautiful tho, they all are.
