Odd Egg(s)??!

We got an egg today with a really odd shell...sounds almost hollow & has knobbly ridges on it.We had one similar a couple of months ago & have had a couple like it over the last week or so.It almost looks like itwas maybe trodden on by one of the girls whilst still soft??
A chap at the lottie said it could be that the chook that laid it is about to moult?
None of them seem poorly & all have clean vents...any ideas???
I'll enclose a pic,but have really struggled to get a good one.
Sorry if it's something that's been discussed recently...I seem to remember something recently but couldn't find anything with the search button...even bigger apologies if it were me wot asked before...my brain is like a sieve at the mo!!!

I have loads of them type.....not from my hens but from my friend I buy eggs off who has hens on her allotment. I also wondered why they were like that, I wondered if it was a deficiency or something but don't know at all, hope someone answers soon!

I got a few like that when they were coming back into lay a few months back, but nothing really since. She may have had a fright or been stressed by something .
Give them some spice and see how it goes.

I can't tell from the pic, but does it look as if the shell wrinkled up a bit before it turned hard? I don't know if that's actually what happens, but that's how it looks. Anyway, a chap we know says it happens in older hens and it's nothing to worry about, there's nothing you can do about it and the older the hen gets the more eggs like that she'll produce.........of course he could just have been trying to palm us off with dodgy eggs.

I've had a few like that from my ex-batts. They're absolutely fine inside, no different to any of the others, though the shells are usually fairly thin

That's the problem with selling eggs.........the punters get all the normal looking ones and we as a family get to eat all the dodgy ones! Lol

Cool!Yep...we've been eating them & there is absolutely no taste difference.
A thought I had last night...we switched to pellets recently for the summer(they have mash in the winter)and unless we mix their grit in with something wet,they just leave it...hence we've had a few really thin shelled eggs...maybe linked???
(not because of pellets...I know that's what most of you use...but the fact ours have been snubbing their grit when not mixed in with the mash!)

Just been reading an piece in my poultry magazine and the picture is exactly the same as yours, it says

'Wrinkled shell are probably caused by a hen in over-fat condition;the shell taking its shape from the contours of the oviduct which is encased in fat.'

Ooooeer, we get a few like that every now and then, we call them veloceraptor eggs and they don't get sold but we have them, the shell is a bit thinner. We got them even when the ex-batts were skinny before they got fat

I get one most days from my Batties, and I wouldn't call them fat. They're usually larger than average, but fine to eat. I sell them along with the rest unless I've got plenty or 'normal' ones

There were loads of wrinkly ones like that at our local market last week- for sale !

Well I'm pretty sure none of ours has a weight problem.
Reassuring that it's pretty common amongst everyone elses...

The way I look at it is; it's the contents that count! I now have two regular customers, one wants six, the other twelve a week. One even moaned that he had to eat T...o eggs the other day and they were carp, so never again! Good to know they're appreciated!
