I can always claim it's legally within the rules, I'm very sorry for following such rules, blame everyone else and offer to give back the string from the brisket.

    Would that work?
    LOL!

    But no it wouldn't!

As Hilary has said they are not (according to DEFRA) supposed to be fed anything that has been in a kitchen, so it doesn't matter whether it is leftovers or bought and prepared especially for them, even if you are veggie or vegan (though I suppose if you were vegan you wouldn't be keeping chooks ) Vegan restaurants aren't exempt.

Therefore, as I understand it... cabbage leaves from the garden are ok, cabbage from your fridge isn't.

I do tend to go with the bolt the stable door after the horse has disappeared over the horizon school of thought, and that as usual the subsequent rules tend to be a bit OTT, but there are serious potential consequences (see the ham sandwich/pig example) and so even if I were to feed kiwi fruit peel, for instance, to my girls I would never give cooked (human) meat to them.

I think the law is more geared towards proffesionals than amateurs.

Amatuers must obey it, but it's mainly to stop BIG business using kitchen 'slops' from hotels etc which could have anything in it to supplement the chooks diet.

LOL! No, I didn't mean it like that- it was early and I was being harangued for breakfast!

My chickens prefer their human meat raw and preferably ornamented with an engagement ring or toe ring

Can't help with the cannibal debate, but human flesh smells foul (fowl? ) when you burn it on the grill...
