Aw, thanks for all the lovely messages, you have made it much easier to bear. Children often surprise you, don't they - DD was very matter of fact about it, but then Heather had been off colour for a few days. She was sad, but didn't shed a tear - had a good stroke of her little hen in it's box, then cuddled it all the time whilst we were digging the grave (made me well up a bit that). Her brothers made a lovely slate stone for the top of the grave, and we gave Heather a decent send off. We buried her (nice and deep, took a while to dig!) down at the plot, where she had her happy times. Just hope the other two are okay now, it seemed very strange only putting two hens to bed.
Come bed time, all three children were talking quite excitedly about the prospect of getting more chickens! Life moves on eh, especially when you're a nipper.Life is brief and very fragile, do that which makes you happy.
