it was brown with freckles with a lovely smooth shell and it wasn't thin or anything and the yolk was really dark yellow with a splodge of white round it ... apparently with marans it takes a while for them to get dark as its some gland or something inside that coats the shell with colour and she's only half maran so not sure how dark or not they will go, but she came from a lovely dark brown egg, so fingers crossed they will go darker

a whole 60g of yumminess for my brekkie this morning i love my pingu theres no freckles on this one and it's a different shape to the last one, so there is a slight suspicion that it might be one of the others ... but i spose i'll work that out eventually, maybe she's not feeling like freckles today

phoenix is deffo not far off .... neva is more ... wot you doing in there when theres strawberry plants to scoff

it has definitely been worth all the effort and wait ... though for the amount it's cost to feed em to egg age .... they might not actually pay that amount back in shop eggs saving till 2027

They do tend to start off small and sporadic and then get bigger and more often, and sometimes mine are freckled and sometimes not. I have just about managed to work out whose are whose after 15 months (it was easy with the white hen cos she lays white eggs!)

well i know all 3 are from pingu, so far, i think phoenix is fairly imminent, now she's slighty smaller than the others, and came from a small egg, so i'm expecting them to be smaller, and neva i think is possibly all maran should hopefully lay choccie eggs, so that'll be one way of telling ... i hope
