yup we waited 24 hours .... i tried candling yesterday with a really crap torch with dodgy batteries ... and it appears ... that the 2 silkies and 3 bad hair days .... all have the start of ikkle chicks .... unfortunately the 8 marans and 5 aracuanas shells are too dark/pigmented .... to see anything whatsoever, so this time may be a complete surprise ... dunno what i'll do if all 18 hatch though lol

I have kind of over run myself with eggs this time - if I end up with 48 chicks it won't bother me but OH will have tantrums <g>

I candled mine yesterday too and could see some signs of development in some of them but as I'm by no means an eggspert, I'm leaving them all in the incubator till they either hatch or go way over the eggspected hatch date. This first week seems to have gone really slowly

Use the whites for meringues and the lovely yellow yolks for lemon or raspberry curd!

All these eggs you lot buy - it's just fab!...and I'm having a hard time deciding to get just three hens! I never had this problem deciding how many kids to stop at

Well it's the end of Day 18 in the incubator (same for Lynda's too I think). I've just turned the eggs for the last time, and I candled them all too. There's at least 6 that look viable, at least 6 that's definitely not, and the others I'm just not sure. The ones that are definitely not I've taken out so that any chicks that hatch will have a bit more moving about room It's wait and see time now
