Closed eye

Just wondered if anyone has seen this before. One of the Light Sussex we got a month ago has always kept closing her eyes. First we thought it was something to do with coming into lay. However, I picked her up and had a close look today. It appears that she has extra big eyelids, almost twice as much skin as there should be. She seems healthy enough, but often stands with her eyes closed.
I have googled chickens eye lids etc and the only thing sounding semi relevant is "sleepy eye", a genetic condition, but there is only one american paper on this.
Any ideas anybody??

There is a condition called infectious coryza which is a bit like a heavy cold, but the birds have swollen eyelids, in addition to runny nose and wheezing. It's a bacterial infection treatable with antibiotics, but it is supposed to spread very rapidly through the flock so worth ruling this condition out with your vet.

I'm sure if she were totally well she wouldn't be closing her eyes all the time, so a trip to the vet may be a good idea (although possibly expensive).

Ok thanks for that. There are no other symptoms, just eye closing. The eye is not swollen at all, and no discharge. She is eating and drinking and laying! Mysterious.
