I've got a girl who is 5! She was the one left behind when the other girls were stolen a couple of years ago. She's a speckledy and a gentle big girl who is definitely the boss but never pecks anyone. She's never been unkind to any of the new girls we've had. Oh ...and she still lays every other day a beautiful dark brown hard shelled egg! No softies from Chuckles!

Good for Chuckles - a testament to the powers of TLC!

That's really interesting, my lot are exactly the same. We adopted four ex bats in October, have had three or four eggs a day all through the winter, and we're now down to one or two, with one of them laying softies consistently.

But then, I'm watching them while I'm typing this and three of them are curled up in the sun in front of the patio doors, gently dozing and looking utterly content. Seeing that's worth a dozen eggs easily

I thought my girls had gone into retirement but have started laying again, unfortunately quite a few softies.
