Just a thought, but if you are turning the pellets into mush, why don't you start with layers meal/mash in the first place?? I thought the idea of pellets was convenience. I know pellets are a little boring and monotonous (?sp.) hence the making them more interesting to eat!

Mine have access to all the yummy grubs and insects in the field- so they just munch on the pellets before being let out in the morning- and if they get locked away earlier- othe than that I give the occasional treats and porridge with added titbits.
So really my chooks are fed for free from the field- and the pellets are a bit of an extra- or something to eat when they come in from the rain .

You sound like you are certainly 'enriching their environment' with the food presentation peeps!! Well done!!

        Oh, I see!

You've lost me but that's not difficult!!!

I have to make the pellets more interesting as my lot are just not eating enough pellets and I also need them to have the Limestone flour and calcium suppliments from the vet.

In moderation, excellent, in excess, well, it's salty isn't it?

It is salty, but I can't imagine them having SO much of it that it would cause a problem.
                      I love it :0)

I'm glad I'm not the only one who likes to make their hens diet a bit more interesting. I do the boiled peelings, pellets and ground shell balls as well. Make a batch on Sunday after dinner and they last most of the week. I get mobbed trying to fix the hanger into the coop!!
