i always thought chooks squawked when they laid an egg

but today i watched phoenix pop one out, was amazing she just kinda gritted her beak concentrated pushed and there it was .... plop ... her first egg and weirdly, she's the smallest of the 3, yet she laid the biggest egg so far, twice the weight of nevas first offering

2 mins later she started squawking the house down and running round like a nutter ... then the other 2 joined her ... so they don't do it cos of the pain .... they just do it to tell the world how clever they are to have laid an egg

LOL, some do make a din when they are laying, others do it quietly and then make a racket, sounds like Phoenix is in the second group. She was obviously very very proud of herself

Well, I don't know what happened when our first egg was laid as we found it first thing this morning, but I certainly felt like running around shouting 'I've got an egg, look at my egg, isn't this a lovely egg....'

Have to say though..they'll sometimes squalk before and after....and quite often the boys join in with exactly the same squawk!!!!

Ours just make gentle groaning noises - You know the statue called "The Thinker"? I imagine them sitting like that with a wing on their forehead and moaning softly as they push in a constipated manner!
