How much Cider Vinegar

Thinking of adding a little cider vinegar to my girls' water as a little pick-me-up. I've bought a bottle from the local horse shop and it says on in for use with horses. Is it the same stuff? Can I use it on my girls? If so, how much do I add?

Yes that's sounds as if it's the right stuff. I use 10mls to 1 litre water. Others might have different ideas though. Don't use a metal water container as it might corrode.

I mix mine into an empty 2 litre milk container, you then have the required dosage and it isn't wasteful as you pour from the container into the chooks dishes.

I've only been giving mine 10ml to 2.5l, didn't want to OD them on the stuff, cos it pongs!!

How often do you guys give it, cos the hubby is telling me I shouldn't give it to them everyday, which I'm not... every 3rd day or is that too much?

I give it every day - on the advice of our breeder. They look well on it - as did all his stock - so I'm sticking to it until told otherwise!

Apparently not. The supermarket stuff is clear, whereas the stuff you buy for livestock is cloudy. It seems that the supermarket stuff is simply a condiment and wouldn't help at all. I made that mistake - and as I hate the stench of vinegar it was a big decision, the first bottle of any type of vinegar to enter my house in 30 years of marriage - It went in the bin and we managed to buy the right stuff for the chickens from the feed merchant - stinks just the same though.

It's the unpasteurised stuff you want, it contains "the mother" (a stringy substance) and according to the bottle I've got, it's the part that contains the enzymes and minerals. This site tells you all about it Crossgates Bioenergetics - Apple cider vinegar

But you can also get apple wine which when the vinegar fly gets in will become apple wine vinegar!
