Turns out they are both boy's after all, and having already started crowing, they have been moved from the house to the shed in a bid to get a good nights sleep. (The kid's were complaining, and one of them is sitting exams)
So my poor little babies have gotta go!

Hayley as already suggested a place for me to take them, but it's a fair way from me... and limited funds (non-existant really) are stopping me from going there and the fact that I might not ever see them again. However, if one of the forum members can rehome them at least I can keep up with the progress.

Oh no! Sadly it's a risk we take when we hatch eggs or buy very young stock. One of my Rhodie 'girls' is crowing. I bought them at 9 weeks old, but Rhodies are apparently very difficult to sex and I was warned that they couldn't be 100% certain. Fortunately I'm able to juggle the housing arrangements around enough to allow him to stay. I hope you find homes for them both, have you thought of an ad in your local free-ads paper? Insist it goes in the pets section rather than the livestock (though I suppose they might let you put it in both) as lots of people keep Pekins as pets rather than as layers and lavender is a popular colour.

Unfortunately it's a fact of life that at least 50% of all hatches will be male. So you have to think in advance what you will do with the male chicks. And you'll never re-home them all. Little Hen Rescue (our local battery hen rescue place) is flooded with unwanted cocks, sadly. I'm afraid we eat all ours, both LF and bantam. I get quite fond of them, especially as most of mine get hand tame, but when the time comes, they HAVE to go in the pot. I don't have near neighbours so could easily keep more cocks than I do, but have a rule that the only cocks kept on are for breeding - oh I do have one old bantam who I made a promise with a long time ago that I would not eat him: there is soft side to me!!!

Gonna have to feed them up and off to the pot they go.

We're in the process of trying to convince the kiddies that a couple of our boys could be the heart of a mid summer barbie at the lottie...we've moved on from hysterical cries to ever so faint giggles....so maybe!!!?

Good News!!!

The boy's have just gone to live on a farm, as much as I would of loved to have fed them up and ate them, they were just too god damn cute. Not to mention I doubt they would of been big enough.
But all good, hubby has just told me we going to get a couple of new one's at the weekend! Which is shocking!!! (I think he is really warming to them all, I finally have him on my side now - Yay more chooks)

Don't think I will go for Pekin's tho this time, I think I'm gonna stick the original plan and get an Orpy (and still in time for my birthday too ) Hubby wants Wellsummers tho, i'll win him round - I always do! lol
