Last night a distant cockerel (or it might have been a hen) did what I can only describe as an alarm call. It did it twice then stopped, but Coco and Elvis immediately joined in. Elvis gave up after a minute or so, but Coco went on and on......and on. He was obviously very distressed about something, but we couldn't find any obvious reason for it, other than him hearing the other chicken. Also, as Elvis had decided that there wasn't anything to worry about and had taken himself off to bed, it makes me think that there probably was no real danger. Is it normal for a cockerel to become this obsessed with danger? He is always very alert and calls warnings when there are crows or birds of prey (or helicopters!) about, but I've never seen him like that before. We eventually persuaded him in to bed and he seems fine this morning
