I had a lovely Pheasant for dinner at the weekend and wondered , does anyone have any experience of rearing game birds?
Are they difficult to rear and what about Guinee fowl ?.
Hello Burnie, I know 1 grape reared quail - I think it was Tensing. As far as I remember the quail were reared with the chickens. Try the search box and see.
From each according to his ability, to each according to his needs.
dont know about pheasants, likley to fly off, guinea fowl can be domesticated, they like high perch's, you can keep with your chooks but better if they have their own house.
Yo an' Bob
Walk lightly on the earth
take only what you need
give all you can
and your produce will be bountifull
I have quail, ther are just 4 weeks old at the moment and are now living outside in a run within the chicken run, mainly as I worry about the goose having a go at them.
I have thought about pheasants, but as yet haven't found any eggs for sale, I think I will have to wait till spring.
Quinea fowl are strange birds, look almost prehistoric, and they are so noisy, no good if you have neighbours.
Guinee fowls are a no no then, found a supplier already for the oven,I will look in the shooting books for pheasents and Partridge, got to find out what I can keep as I live in the middle of the village,a chookless village at that!.
A friend of mine used to have quails - he had an aviary also and they ran about in the bottom of that most of the time. Seemed happy enough until the cat got in one day and ate two of them. Whoops.
Some of us live in the past, always talking about back then. Some of us live in the future, always planning what we are going to do. And, then there are those, who neither look behind or ahead, but just enjoy the moment of right now.
