    You Could Try....

...a Penguin paperback reprint (from 1941, when food was scarce) called

Poultry & Rabbits on Scraps by Claude Goodchild and Alan Thompson.

I got a copy today and I think it's a great book. I ought to say that, apparently, DEFRA have condemned this book as it doesn't meet their stringent regulations.

I have emailed DEFRA today for a clear explanation of the 'Feeding Waste Products to Livestock' page their website as it seems to be related to commercial rather than domestic waste. The computer generated reply said it would take up to 15 working days for them to get back to me!

It is a very helpful little book though, things that you can plant for your chooks are listed as

    Artichoke, Jerusalem.
Beans; Broad, Dwarf, Haricot & Runner
    Buckwheat
    Beet
    Broccoli, Sprouting
    Brussels Sprouts
    Cabbage; Spring, Winter & Savoy
    Carrots
    Kale; Thousand Headed & Rape
    Leeks
    Lettuce (summer)
    Lucerne
    Maize
    Mangolds
    Onions
    Peas
    Potatoes
    Spinach
    Sunflower
    Swedes
    Turnips

I've typed them as they are in the book.
