  • Help! Found 4 ducklings in drive

I'd post a pic so you can tell me how old they are but I can't find it His Lordship took it and said it's in shared docs and is now at Frontier getting chick crumbs

There's 4 they were totally lost and we've hunted high and low for mama and nothing.

Wingfeathers well sort of stubbly little things at the moment, and I don't think they are very waterproof they've just had a paddle around in the water we gave and looked like drowned rats, they are on towels now

Just given them a bowl of chick crumb...

They look like muscovy ducklings. We get loads by us. They can wander far from the river and water sources and become a nuisance, breeding all year.
Having said that maybe all ducklings look the same?!

I would say they look a couple of weeks old as their beaks don't look like really baby ones.

But I am not an expert on anything 'duck' lol

Isn't it odd how animals turn up on the doorstep of the one person who will help? I've lost count of the number of stray dogs I've taken in over the years. I mean, how many people have the knowledge/facilities/willingness to take in four ducklings? Yet it's your drive they were sitting on.
Into each life some rain must fall........but this is getting ridiculous.

I think they must be about a week old and Momma duck has either lost them (sometimes they can be very bad about babies that go astray, and totally fail to notice) or met with a mishap.
If they are content to be in your care, I'd say you've just acquired a little family!

                        How cute are they!

I suppose you could phone the RSPB or RSPCA if you don't want to take them on. Good luck convincing CB that you don't need them......I'd have no chance with my DD especially as we have a pond.

I've said to HL that if CB wants to keep 'em she'll have to dig 'em a pond...

Well I've made them a mash with the chick crumbs and they have taken some from my fingers and one has sussed that it's the same stuff as in the little dish . And two are arguing over who is gonna sit on the two "huge rocks" (stones) in their water dish so they can rule the water and they are tweeting for England in their cat basket in the utility room on the freezer (dog proof).

We've named them Daffy, Donald, Crispy and Aromatic although we can't tell which is which

they can eat grass, kitchen peelings and weeds.
Apparently ducklings aren't waterproof until about 5 weeks old: http://duckhobby.com/raisingmallardducks.html
