  • Pictures of "New" girls

I have worked out how to get the photos off my phone and onto the computer. I'm very proud of myself!!

This is the "girls" when we first got them, a couple of weeks ago. I don't have any pictures with all 3 in though.

One has a narrower tail, that looks like is starting to curl under, so we think he may be a cockerel They have only just started sounding like chickens, so we can't tell by the sound! I'll take a photo of him/her tomorrow!

They look like Sussex are they? You're brave letting them indoors

Yes, they're light sussexes. They are 12 weeks old, tomorrow.

I didn't exactly "let" them into the house- they jump/flew over the barricade I put up! The cat thinks it is not good having them in the house, because they stole her food!

I have taken some more recent photos. Does the tail in the last picture lokk a little cockerel like?

They are absolutely lovely, and their characters are begining to show now. Very cheeky!

              Cheeky little wotsits

I'm not sure about the tails, normally the crop is the first indicator, anyone else?

That's interesting, the curling under tail - I see what you mean - like a cockeral's but longer. I have a Lt Sussex Cross and her tail is upright - I can see your concerns. Hope he/she turns out to be whatever you want it to be!

Our Lt Sussex is a glutton for food and is easily bribed through her stomach!

By the way, you know Lt Sussex are a dual breed?

Is that the same one that is in the foreground in the first picture???.......
                    Look at the combs!

My chooks are a mixture so I really get confused trying to sex them.
As yours are a pure breed- do their legs look different thicknesses- my lads had chunkier leg bones than the gal- and their heads were a little bigger-that was before the tail and fleshy bits- and crowing- gave the game away!!!

No idea if leg thickness actually is a good indicator early on??????

It doesn't look very feminine. You'll just have to wait and see!
