  • Laydee had a stroke I think

Bit of a shock this morning, Mini one of CB's laydees didn't get up was flat out on her side and I thought she was dead until she lifted her head. She couldn't stand so I cuddled her and stroked her thinking she was on her last breaths her head just flopped on my chest but she was soothed by the stroking. 15 minutes later she was still going - just.....

*meanwhile me pathetically sobbing me bleeding heart out ....

Found an empty box put hay in it (more comfortable) and placed her in put her in a spare stable That's still deep littered from winter. Had to do some work, feed animals etc, checking her every few minutes - still with us.

Had to go shopping, didn't expect her to be still around, still there - just.

Mucking out girls checked her - she's sitting up.

Got her out of box, she fell over, put her back in, tipped water onto her beak. A few minutes later she stood, so I got her out again.

Very Wobbly and kept dropping her left wing, collapsing on left leg, pecked at some food, got her a feed bowl for water. She'd started to walk but very strangely with her left leg - sort of Basil Fawlty Ministry of Funny Walks style - leg straight back then snap up then stretch forward.. drop left wing.

She's very dazed and d'you know what..... I reckon she's had a stroke.

Looking a bit stronger now she's nested back in the box again but considering her state this moring I am absolutely gobsmaked she's still here. CB at school so she still is unaware...

Probably not what you want to hear but it might be kinder to put her out of her misery.

    Sorry.

At last look she's had a walk around and put herself back in the box after pecking around a bit. I'm gonna give her the benefit of the doubt at the moment she's definitely looking more with it.

Is she in any danger of being bullied? Maybe isolate her, just in case it's not what you think?

She's isolated since I found her in her own stable, no way is she up to dealing with the others at the moment,

Ah poor chook. If she's eating try her on boiled egg and yoghurt. Seems to be the cure-all for chooks. Might give her enough strength to keep going.
I'd offer to do private physio for her but I've retired!!!!!!
              So hope she's ok.

Good luck overnight. Have you got any background heat you could give her?

Amazing chook...does sound like symptoms of a human stroke though.

Any news? How is CB taking it?

Well, on CBs arrival I presented her with the news and believe it or not....

an egg, bless her - Mini that is

CB was shocked but anyway Mini was looking better and was walking almost normally - amazing

This morning it's as if nothing had happened yesterday you wouldn't even know she was all one sided just 18 hours previously. She was standing at the door of her stable waiting to go say hi to all her mates, which obviously I let her do.

                            Chooks.............. amazing girls
