In an animal (as opposed to a bird) I would suspect the possibility of 'salt poisoning' (actually a lack of water intake in hot conditions), as causing that sort of symptom. I don't know whether birds get the same effect?
The occasional beast my be too busy to drink as much as it should when things get warm, and suffer this effect. My previous dog did that one day, playing 'fetch' with a fence to jump, he suddenly staggered and fell over (none of us had noticed just how long the gamne had gone on, or how warm it was). He was fine after a good drink and a rest.

            OMG!! That's just amazing!!

Nature is wonderful thing. So glad you didn't go rushing to the vets.

Watch for more strokes though - stroke victims often have more strokes. I'm wondering though, if she had maybe damaged some nerves in her neck, by jumping or whatever, which have now recovered?

It does sound like maybe heat stroke......? So glad she's revived.

The chap we got our hatching eggs from thinks that a couple of his suffered from this(they'd clogged up their water thing with wood shavings).
The symptoms he described actually sound very similar,so maybe chooks do suffer from it too!?

Very interesting this as my mum who is 86, has Alzheimers and is in a nursing home collapsed on Saturday. They said they thought it was a stroke and to expect the worst Saturday night. I sat with her through the evening and Sunday morning as she was between sleeping and being semi-conscious. They'd put her on a drip straight away as she has been getting very dehydrated recently because they struggle to get her to drink. Yesterday she started to wake a bit more during the day and then spoke a few words. Today she is up, dressed and back as good as she was before the whole episode! Makes me wonder if this also was a lack of water/hot weather thing - anyway, wishing all the best for your chook and my mum to continue to do well!

Wow, good luck to your mum Ashby, glad she's feeling better.

It may be that, but until she sat up in the box she'd had nothing to drink - with floppy head and last breaths I just wanted to put her somewhere comfortable. It was only a few hours later I gave her a little to drink because she seemed strong enough having sat up
