  • Chick(en)s ARE Racist!

I got 2 more cockerels from andi&di last night.

We watched both sets of chickens get put in their place and finally proved that chickens are racist!

All my other chickens are black and so was 1 of the new cockerels, the other new 1 is grey. I put both cockerels into the house and they came straight down into the run. The grey 1 was instantly attacked by my other 4 cockerels.

I removed him as the others were double the size. The black 1 mixed in with them for a little longer. About 5 minutes later the black 1 was bullied (expected as they're new).

    CHICKENS ARE RACIST!

Anyway, they are now in a cage inside the main run being watched by the other cockerels (not happy!).

I think once I have culled the 4 related cockerels, there shouldn't be a problem as the hens didn't mind too much.

Just for the record - I am only doing this to hope for some lovely multi-coloured egg laying chickens once they start breeding.

I am not fully mad (yet) although my neighbours might be

I had my own thoughts on this before yesterday as Dandelion & Marigold had never really been accepted by our Isa's...they're obviously brown & D&M are black & grey.
Then more recently,Pip our odd one out chick is being definately left out by the others.
But I must say last night was all the confirmation needed, your other cockerals didn't seem to even notice the black chick initially, yet like you say instantly launched their attack on our poor ickle Legbar!....kind of put him in his place though as he's been Top Chick up until now!)
Hope it all goes well, keep us updated on how they do & Thankyou so much for taking them...two down four or five to go!...of which three may have homes also...just as we'd decided we were up for the challenge of fattening them up!
ps...not fully mad yet?...I'll say nothing but No comment!

We had this problem, but it sorted itself out in the end. Our light sussex is now larger than our black demon hen and can give as good as she gets!!

We kept our three Rhodie and two Gold-Top growers together for a time and the gold-tops were always squabbling, I think it was because for a Rhodie the world comprised of half red and half gold chickens, but for the Gold-tops there were red ones and then this one, strange gold one which they then took a dislike to, little realizing that they were also a gold one themselves.
Into each life some rain must fall........but this is getting ridiculous.
