  • Bird Flu Question

I know its not here yet, but want to be prepared for when it does get here.

We always feed the birds in our graden through the winter and our garden backs onto a woods so we get lots of customers.

When bird flu gets here, should we still feed the birds? We don't keep any birds ourself and the only time we would have contact is when changing the food.

    Thanks

I think you will find that if bird flu does hit our country that the government will issue a list of do's and don'ts. Until then don't worry.

How safe do you think chicken pellets (manure) will be in the future? Is it all produced from birds in 'safe zones'?

        Bird flu

        Hi All

        Defra
Have issued guidelines that can be found on their web page.

Keep inside, dont let wild birds contaminate food and water etc.

Most things that I have read are aimed at livestock for meat consumption and for thoes who have more than 50 chickens.

I'm sure most councils have a register of livestock in case of the doom ahead

Regarding the manure I am not certain but I would imagin it would have been heat treated and processed to make it safe to handle etc.

Good Hygeine and common scence I think is the key .
