No more broodies for me!!!!!

Thats twice now that one of my hybrids has went broody.........and still no chicks.

Day 22 today, lifted her out to find there's only three eggs left of the 12 she originally had under her. As there's no way a rat could have gotten in I can only assume she's eaten them! No shells or anything evident, and deffo no chicks.

Ah well..........it's back to the inccy if I want to increase my numbers!

Good grief....this 'leave things to Nature' isn't as straightforward as ya think is it???

Inexperienced mom ??- young cockerel??? ( a few of my first eggs were sterile and I have 2 cockerels..and they were about 6 months old then)

Maybe she knew the eggs were sterile and was eating them so they didn't contaminate her nest??????

I've never come across a case of a broody eating her own eggs - are you absolutely sure nothing has managed to squeeze in and steal them? If she really has eaten them, maybe she did it for some other reason - hungry/thirsty/desperate for protein?
