No boys here either because of close neighbours. One of my girls looks just like a cockerel though as her comb and wattle are getting bigger every day. She stills lays so don't think she's changing sex just yet! I don't know how to post piccies so can't show anyone what I mean.

OH says he's really not sure that I should be on t'interweb looking at all these pictures of cocks!

We don't have any either, again mainly out of consideration for neighbours, but also because we don't have room for him or chicks.

They are very handsome chaps though! If anyone's in Devon for hols, I can highly recommend the Devonshire Traditional Breeds Centre near Crediton. Their chickens & cocks are a sight for sore eyes, the little banty cocks were hysterically funny as well as good looking.

Err Basil shouldn't be a bluebell.... is it possible he's a blue marans? the blue bells are bred from Marans cockeral (copperblacks most commonly) to RIR hens so girls are blue and boys are gingery-red unless you've got a reversed situation with A RIR cockeral to marans hens? Will send pics of my silver blues who looked a lot like Basil a few weeks ago but the colours on their backs are more developed now....

Young silver blues, Copperblue and Splash, even younger Dorking roo!

Excuse the Marans scrapes They had a ding dong a few days ago and I had to remove the trouble maker, they squabble a little from time to time but it got out of hand but all are ok!

Ooh, thanks for that Eye1der. He looks EXACTLY like my Elvis - who might have been a pure cuckoo Marans, but might have been a crossbreed, I think I can safely say now that he's a pure breed, they are the same even down to the occasional beetle green feather. Can't post a picture as I refuse to use digital, but my friend has photos of him and Coco, I really must get her to help me post the pics.
Into each life some rain must fall........but this is getting ridiculous.

Well ........................ I got Basil from Cotswold Chickens, and at the time (apart from his size) he looked EXACTLY like all the other Bluebelles he was in with. Yes, he has got quite a bit of colour on him now, but I still like him and to me, he'll always be my Bluebelle cockerel.

LOL - I never thought that being a purebred instead of a hybrid could be considered a bad thing in a roo! Sorry I will leave your handsome boy alone. ....

Except... Silver blue Marans are considered quite the thing at the mo. having only been in the uk (so they say anyway) for a year or two....

Should probably add to that- That I found out about silver blues when trying to discover what happened to my expected copperblues.... went through any photos I could find to see why they had grown up a funny colour and if it had a name! Did not get them for fashion reasons - anyone who's seen me shop would know that LOL.

You've got me thinking now!! (shouldn't be too difficult, I don't do it very often). I've just googled silver blue marans, and they've got feathered legs, but apart from that, yes, Basil does look like them
