Lost a chook on Saturday

I lost one of my Black Rocks to a fox yesterday afternoon at 4.30pm while I was in the garden with them.

Neighbours next door having a barbie and next door the other-side mowing a lawn!

The fox appeared over the rear fence (6') scrambled into the garden - chooks went mad - I chased fox, it grabbed a chook and over the fence it went - all in less than 2 minutes. Poor chooks been locked in all day today their run is large 20' x 12' for 6 (sorry) 5 chooks but it's not the same as being free.

So after Penny's lucky escape - Ebony was not so lucky

And even worse that you actually saw it.

You have my sympathy, as I've lost 2 of mine to the fox in the last 2 weeks (although I found a dead cub in the ditch near us... lost its fight with a car so I know they're close)

Not from here it aint It's a lovely place. Moved here 2 years ago and no plans to leave.

And it's not even a long way to Tipperary... probably about half an hour.

That's really dreadful to hear, and it must have been a million times worse to see!!! So sorry about poor Ebony xxxx

Oh no, that's awful. I left mine out in the garden yesterday when I went out as I knew all my neighbours were about. I know the foxes are brazen but you don't expect it when so many people are in their gardens. Mine have a fox proof run but you would think it was a prison they just want to be out of it and in the garden, so I let them. Really feel for you and Ebony.

How awful. I only have mine out when I'm there too - I daren't even go in to put the kettle on! It just takes seconds doesn't it?

I don't keep chooks, but that's terrible for you and your other chooks... that's one cheeky or desperate fox, lets hope it dosn't come back !

Oh God - that must have been awful for you (and the chuck) so sorry.

The man we have our eggs off (we still have only one laying pullet presently) - he lost three in seconds last week and both his dogs were loose so gave chase. The other people whom we have eggs off sometimes - they have an electric fence, protecting their flock all the time. They only turn it off when they enter to feed/clean out
