we have four young birds, and the two blackrock chucks sometimes miss a days laying and then lay an enormous double yoker...bigger than a goose egg, is this usual for young birds settling into laying?..however, no complaints on size or taste. its just gets very noisy when they do decide to lay(understandably).

Yes, I think it's normal. It's just the youngsters reproductive system getting itself sorted out Enjoy the double-yolkers
My girls found their way into my heart and now they nest there

Occasionally you come across chooks which habitually lay double-yolkers. More often it is a 'settling in' thing.

We had a run of them for a month or two - ours were POL in April - but now they seem to have settled down. They were lovely though!
