mo - if you need eggs for your broody when you get her (coz you know you will) i always have a few Pekin eggs knocking around if its just a hatch you are after. if you want particular breeds then penky or leek would be your best bet.

i have some black pekin, gold partridge pekin at the moment, some silky eggs and even a few turkey eggs if she fancies a longer wait!!

Thanks Bramble, I'll keep you in mind, and if Becci phones me to say she wants some "little" ones, I'll pass her on to you

Even more envious now!!! They're getting some eggs tomorrow. The best bit though is that they'll be due to hatch on or very near Hope's birthday Crikey, there'll be no holding her down if she gets a chick for her birthday!!

She's already shared in a way when I've hatched out eggs, and I think "pester power" also has a lot to do with it Especially as all 3 girls and Becci watched a chick hatch in the incubator. she was always adamant though that she'd "never ever have any chook that wasn't a rescued ex-batt". Famous last words!!!!

eggs delivered - its all up to the hens now!

I have reassured her that any cockerels i will take back and swap over for hens if i have spares that she likes.

She has had 2 gold partridge silkie, 2 barbu d'uccle, 4 black pekin and a "chick of the day" special as a freebie - gold partidge cochin hen x gold partridge silkie cockerel. Its a freebie as he got in with the girls and had a field day! Got to rest the hens now for 10 days to make sure that they are clear before i can reintroduce them to the boy and be sure of what i'm getting!

none of the eggs should be more than 4 days old, and fertility in the pekins especially is very high so she should get a good hatch - if she candles them at 7 days and she finds some that aren't fertile, give me a shout and i will try and replace them for you with what i have had laid since.

I have marked up the shells in pencil with what is inside so she can keep a tally. Keep me posted please.

                              An update on Janet
According to Becci, Janet's obviously read the instruction manual on what to do. She's behaving perfectly (so far!) She's got 10 eggs under her and is now at Day 4 or thereabouts. She can see and be seen by the other girls who visit for a chat occasionally but mostly leave her to do this brooding lark. Jellybean is also settling in well with the other girls now too. So, so far, all's well
