  • Green legs????

    One of my 7 week old chicks have distinctly green legs
    None of the other mom and paps have legs that colour..and I clearly have an interesting mixture of breeds here!!

    SOooo..out of interest- anyone know which breed of chooks tend to have green/brown legs???

              I thought it sounded more like the Lesser Spotted Green Legged Mountain Splashfart?

                My Marsh Daisy has greeny grey legs. They go dark grey as the birds get older.

                The breeder described them as 'willow' green and they really are quite green at present. Feathersite says;

                Considered a small bird for a heavy breed, the Marsh Daisy was developed in Lancashire, England, in the early 1900s. It has OEG bantams, Hamburgs, Buttercups and Malays in its heritage. This strange melange of breeds produced a bird somewhat gamey in character and excellent on range, even in poor or swampy areas. They are also considered good layers and broodies.

                The variety most commonly seen is the Wheaten. The willow colored legs end in horn colored toe nails. A large rosecomb is another feature of the breed, with a leader that follows the head, although not as closely as in Wyandottes. Eyes are red and the lobes are sort of lemon in color, although often described as white. Males weigh around 6-7 pounds and females 5-6 pounds.

                    I've just this morning noticed that my Araucana cross bantam has a green tinge to her yellow legs. I know her egg came from an Araucana hen but have no idea what sort of cock was her father.

                        It's really strange to see just one, but they are definitely the willow green described, with a sort of yellow hugh.
                        Quite pretty really...I wonder (if it's a gal) what colour eggs she'd lay??

                        She's a French bantam breed of Cayenne x with something else.

                            My chicks sometimes get green legs when they have newspaper in the run.... some of my girls have grey legs (and not from newpaper) I'm not sure could be confusing with a phesant but don't the Pedensca (err spelling gone too) have greenish legs?
