  • got new chicks!!

My little daughter(8) talked me into bringing 4 little R I R x light sussex chicks back with us from the Beds show today - they are now convinced she is their mother! If she leaves them - they chirp - Ha! She is in for a long night........! Immy says it is the best day of her life - god I hope they don't die !! Got heat lamp on them and they have an amazing appetite! I have told her if any are boys they get roasted - she was pretty cool about that!! I used to raise chicks(silkies) as a teenager, its taking me back! Feeling nostalgic..

RIR cockerel x LS hen is the classic 'sex linked cross'. Hen chicks are a much deeper 'gold' colour than cockerel chicks which are primrose pale.
If the cross was the other way around, they all turn out 'gold'.
Flowers come in too many colours to see the world in black-and-white.
