Hi, can I ask if sometimes chooks just go off their pellets? Bertha is my lone hen (2 others just died and am waiting to get more) but Bertha, who is an absolute picture of health just doesn't seem to be eating her pellets (used to love 'em). She is scratching happily-loving worms etc and eats her worm-ex when necessary but is leaving her layers pellets. I normally do not give treats (and then only a bit of corn ) until all pellets gone but am worried so don't know what to do. Any advice please?

I wonder if it's a reaction to being alone? My chickens do things together. When one eats, they all go for a peck. When one drinks, they all do. They do reckon it's not good for a chicken to be on its own. You obviously realise this as you're getting more, but it just makes me wonder if that's the reason. Do they sort of trigger each other into doing things?Whoever plants a garden believes in the future.

may be-I've e-mailed BHWT and little hen rescue- LHR has just e-mailed to say there is a possibility of a single hen so I'm looking into that. I was also thinking of grinding up the pellets to make a mash-it's meant to be a bit like comfort food isn't it? What do you think?
