How much does the vet charge for examining a sick chook?

Mine examined 4 chooks with a cold, inoculated all 4 of them, and charged me just over £25 - I was gobsmacked, was expecting much more!

My ex-batts a couple of weeks ago PTS £17 included cremation/incinerate/disposal - that was for 2.
2 poorly hens last year £11 (ex-batts again) included some Baytril

I had a sick chook that he just charged me £20 to see. She died while being x-rayed so he didn't charge me for that.

He has diagnosed mycoplasma over the phone and I only had to pay for the antibiotics.
I have always found my vet to be very reasonable.

My vet hasn't charged me at all so far for my ex-batts. That has included examinations, euthanasia and cremations. I just pay for medication if needed.

My vet saw my pooly girl for free, just charged me for the anti-biotics (he sees alot of our animals for free - especially the wildlife that comes in)

But an average sort of examination price should be les than £20, if its more you are using a rip off vet!

Best thing is to give them a quick call and ask them, then if you don't like the answer then ring around. Thats how we found our vet when we came here I had a sick hedgehog and rang all the vets in the yellow pages until I found one game enough to look at it!

I haven't had to deal with it yet, but last time I was there with one of the dogs I did enquire and was told that, as with all pets, there is a £27 'consultation charge'. This is before any meds or treatment of any kind. I was thinking about trying the vet near mum as that is more rural and they might be a little more practical.

There is a £25 consultation fee at my vets for each animal but every time I've been so far he says "have this one on me". I think it's because the girls are ex-batts but don't like to ask. I'm sure I'll have to pay sooner or later.

Lots of vets nowadays are large companies owned by money men and the vets themselves are just employees, so there's little they can do in the way of juggling fees. It's probably best to find one of the old fashioned, owned and run by the vet himself, type of practice, but these are becoming few and far between.

I was charged £28 for a two chook visit and it included antibiotics (injections for 2 plus some to pop in the water)
