  • New Girlees!!!

    I'm a bit excited!

Hubbs has decided we'll get some friends for Bokky sooner rather than later! OHMIWORD! You cannot imagine the lists scrolling thro' my head of breeds I'd like! Envious of Julesapple as she has my 'Wish List'! And now Hayleyb has done the same! Would love Cream Legbar, and Wheaten Maran for the egg colours! Also, Lemon Cuckoo Pekin, Buff Plymouth Rock Bantam!

Alas, we'll only get 2 friends and hubbs has decided on hybrids. So, I've rang the poultry centre and they have Skylines and Maran Cuvrees! Yippee! Compromise on the Legbar and Maran - but I shall (hopefully) still get my blue/green egg layer and the chocolate brown egg layer!

Is it evil to be so excited so soon after the passing of Korma?

No its not eveil - its great news, I'm sure that they will all be friends. and I'm sure Korma would be pleased that bokky is not on her own!!

btw all of our chickens are named and we have 1 called tikka and 1 called masala, 1 called rogan, 1 called josh, 1 called burger, 1 nugget and 1 called ellie (short for paella) they are our origional laying flock - then the names got sensible because my daughter got involved so now the rest are called things like rosie, daisy, buttercup etc etc

Post piccies as soon as you can cos we are all as excited as you!!

Lovely news! Hope Bokky is happy. Where did you get them from? Very local? It's not evil at all, we have to carry on and Bokky really needed to be with some new friends, hope they're settling in well.

                  Fab....

                  .......piccies asap please!

I may have your chooky-wishlist, but I've still to get any eggs! Have to say, my Cream Legbar, Hattie, is very funny. She is such a character, but I'm worried that she's decided to be a cockerel - she's starting making very long loud clucking, crowing noises although not the full cock-a-doodle-do bit yet, and she always lets the other 5 eat before she does........very worrying stuff!

T'internet has been a bit psychotic since Korma's passing and I've had probs logging on here as well as internet browsers crashing....

Anyway, 2 new babies have yet to get names.......I'm thinking Skittsie-Mitsie for the Skyline as she is as described! Maran Cuivree seems a little more level-headed and has beautiful big black eyes (I'm thinking Black-Eyed Susan). Hubbs thinks Skyline is 'Dead-Meat' as the other two go for her. Newbies are terrified of Bokky and she charges at them. Babies stay in run allday and Bokky roams the garden. They go to bed reasonably ok together. Have no idea where Bokky is laying now as she has no access to house whilst babies are kept in run.

Have taken some piccies and will post as soon as poss!

Hmmmm......Not sure if Bokky is happier now? She definately knows things are different and she loves to chase babies if they're all together.

They are local - from Thornes and they clipped the wings for me and showed me how to do it properly.

Luverly, I'm sure Bokky will get used to them and they'll all be one happy flock soon...

Struggling with logging on to forum for some reason, now I can't 'shrink' my photos so you'll have to wait to see pics of new girlees...

Am also having difficulties with names for the babies......We have a very pretty looking Marans Cuivree. She has the green beetle sheen on the back and the neck and chest feathers are a beautiful copper colour. Her face is grey like her legs and a small comb (getting redder I think?). Her eyes are a lovely warm dark brown colour and rimmed with black (like eye-liner). She honks like a duck too. (??!?!? well her cluks are a deep ducky type sound.)

The other is an equally stunning bird with interesting feathering. She is a Skyline and is a light tan/beige colour with grey feathers on tail and the back feathers are grey outlined with brown and a brown stripe down them. The hackle feathers are similarly coloured but pronounced with more brown. She has a few sticky-uppy feathers on top of her head making her look like a dozy and dippy Stan Laurel (Laurel & Hardy?) Her face is pale pink and she has cream coloured legs. She seems very skittish and goes hyper if people are near. She is the lowest on the pecking order and Bokky sometimes chases her and pecks her back feathers. Hubbs calls her "Dead-Meat" - but I'd rather she has a proper name.

The darker bird he calls "Dark-Meat" and again she scuttles around the place if you try to catch her.

Any suggestions on names? I'd post pics but they are too large and won't upload. Adobe isn't working either.

Why don't you call the skyline Laurel? And thenperhaps name the other one after a shrub/plant too perhaps Holly, peony, honeysuckle, hibiscus - well you get the idea!
