One of my Bluebelles (age 24 weeks) has laid her first egg today about time too!! It's a lovely little pinky-brown one, and as it's possibly fertilised, I've given it a good shake and put it in the fridge ready for more of them to make a cake with. Wonder if it was the treats of lots of worms yesterday that pushed the final button?

Good girl! Lovely eggs. I can't imagine eating a pallid supermarket offering now - even a 'free range' egg.Whoever plants a garden believes in the future.

The plan is that when I come back from holiday, 2 of the best ex-batts will move in with the Bluebelles and I'll incubate their eggs and see what sort of fertility rate, what the chicks (if any) look like. They should be lovely "back yard chooks" bred for egg-laying rather than table birdsMy girls found their way into my heart and now they nest there
