Chick Pic.......What is it?

This is a pic of my little legbar chick which hatched on the 1st of July; well I was told they were legbar eggs, nice pale blue colour. But to me she [I think she is a hen] she doesn't even look like a chicken! She has huge wings, they are so big they tuck behind her under her tail, any ideas

Cream legbars are an autosexing breed so you should have known waht it was the instant it hatched and fluffed up.

ok looked at her again - 100% girl as she still has her fluffy head and you can see her patterning.

boy legbars are plain chicks and girls look like pheasant chicks with the brown, black and fawn patterning

Cheers Jennie, She was the only chick to hatch out of 5 eggs so no one to compare her with, just books. I am pleased. Funny little thing but very sweet.

This is her adopted sibling, it is an Gold Laced Orpington Cock/ISA Hen cross. hatched on the same day hours before mine & given to me by a friend who only had one hatcling & mum was trying to eat it. I'm pretty sure its a cock, what do you all think?

I think I was very lucky Specs adopted it though.

Not sure about sex but i would err on the side of cock without anything to compare it to - sexing chicks is always easier when there is more than one because you can see which has the more developed comb! But I would say cock looking at it

Gonna be interesting to see what he comes out like with that parentage as GLO's are beautiful - they are on my "want" list

Our 12 week old cream legbars are dark with white bits and have little fluffy bits on their heads

No idea what Cream Legbars look like as chicks...Hattie was 18 weeks when I got her. She's a total loon though, and I love her to bits!

My CLs are being raised by a very dopey Light Sussex bantam, and the chicks as a result are also v calm. I can approach the coop and pick them up without any flapping or fussing. I've noticed this before with other chicks this particular hen has raised. The behaviour of the hen has a strong impact on the subsequent behaviour of the chicks. My more flappy girls raise flappy chicks (even if I set two clutches of "identical" eggs under two separate hens, one dozey and one flappy - the dozey hen will have calmer chicks). So I think I shall have some nice calm legbars.

Can I have pictures to show Hattie just how she should be behaving? She isn't nervous or flighty, just into everything, the first to be poking her beak into anything new, noisier than the others, she's the first to greet me every morning and will come galumphing toward me as soon as I go into the garden so see what, if anything, I have for her to eat!

She's got a lot more character than the others, lovely though they are, but she's definitely a loon.
