  • It's the legs

    Hi
I could sit and watch my hens for hours, I think it's that sideways kicking action I love most - and watching them run. Then there's the vigorous wing flaps so they nearly take off like feathery helicopters and then when they dustbath and go into that spaced-out mode.

It's been a huge revelation to find out about hens, how different they all are, how beautiful they can be. One of my new hens, Rose is black and looks as if someone has touched her wing feathers with gold, the black so irridescent she looks purple, midnight blue and emerald green sometimes all at the same time.

Eggs yes but hugely enjoyable for THEMSELVES!

You're so right Sue. I nearly cried today watching my ex-batt Spotty, giving every bit of tinned sweetcorn to her babies. She didn't have one bit herself. Before hatching her chicks she would have fought to have every bit herself. We're all mad about chooks on here!
