What a brilliant idea! I've grown courgettes for the first time this year, and didn't know what to expect. I planted 12 initially, 6 in a raised bed of almost pure manure, the others dotted around to fill gaps... a few weeks later, everything submerged under the sprawling triffids, I pulled out and composted all but the one bed-full and even they are heaving with marrows. I'm the only one in the family who likes courgettes, have never cooked a marrow (at what size does a courgette officially become a marrow anyway?) and wouldn't have thought of giving them to the chickies. Perhaps it might divert them from the tomatoes and salad bed!

Just made a smooth spiced chutney with big courgettes, onions, apples and oranges. Wonderful! The love of gardening is a seed once sown never dies ...

YESS !!!
I've had loads of overgrown courgettes - we have a cupboard bursting with chutney, a freezer full of courgette & herb soup and veg lasagnes and I still have 3 massive marrows left - fell guilty for hoying them on the compost heap - now I shall treat my girls to one.
Happy !!
