Fly the roost

I have 6 10 week old chicks and I want to move them to a bigger enclosure away from the bantam light sussex that sat the eggs and have raised them. What age is the right time to do this and what effect if any will it have on the bantams.

I take my broodies away when the chicks are about 6 weeks old (if they haven't already decided to leave them anyway) as they tend to show signs of coming back into lay around then, and chuck them back in with the main laying flock. As Bramble says, neither party seem to notice much!
