  • Can you tell what it is yet??

So, the first batch of babies are 6 weeks old today....and my oh my have they grown. I know their too young to sex at the moment, but I'm beginning to get 'feelings' about sex. Wanted to see if any of my fellow grapes had any thoughts on the matter!

So, here is a pic of each bird. 6 weeks old today!

Pic 5 is not a chicken, but by gosh they're cute!!

BTW, I know NOTHING about sexing Chooks, but I can usually look at the face of a Horse or Dog and guess correctly. No use at all really!!!

              aren't those last ones dogs?
I really don't know, but I'm guessing the last(chook)is a boy and the others might be girls?

The first three are lavender Araucanas and the last one is a Maran X Araucana. I think we have two girls and two boys out that lot...dunno why...I just do. I agree, the black one looks like a boy, which upsets me greatly because it's a gorgeous bird...very very friendly.

Hopefully I'll be able to find him a home instead of culling him, he carries the blue egg gene, quite desirable for some people!

                I'll keep you all posted....

Our 2 Araucana crosses have both turned out to be boys - I was dead sure on one from early on, but the other we'd hoped was a hen (even called her Jemima) but "she" has now started to crow!!!!

Yeah, I'm pretty convinced my black one is a boy too. Shame, it wasn't going to be Esther...but now gets called Fester! Poor wee thing...it's lovely. I don't want to cull him, so will be looking for a home for him...only bonus he has is, he'll carry the blue egg.

Got another lot to sex after this...lol....pretty sure one is a boy again....but knowing my luck they'll all start crowing just as I'm expecting an egg!
