  • Egg Shells

Our Marans have been laying a while and as their eggs are so dark I didn't notice this before, but yesterday one of our Rhodies presented us with her first egg. It's just a bog-standard looking light brown egg, but it has the 'normal' matt finish, it's only when I saw it next to one of the Gold-Top eggs that I realized that the Goldies lay really shiny egg-shells. Is that normal for some breeds?
Into each life some rain must fall........but this is getting ridiculous.

yeah perfectly normal - eggs are as individual as the chickens that lay them

Our Copper Marans lay really dark eggs (if they can be bothered to lay!) the Cuckoo Marans lays coffee colour eggs, sometimes not much darker than the ex-batts, but it always has a sheen to it so I can tell the difference.
