  • about to lay ?

    Hi all
    My arau male has just started to mount some of the ladys 'well only one i noticed ,they are the some age at about 21 weeks she has a redish comb Yet Looking at she back side it isnt big at all . Would my male trying to get down with her is a sign shes about to lay ? or do they just shag anything like my dog to his blanket ......

    I believe that it's only Primates(inc humans) and Dolphins that mate purely for pleasure....

      If he can grab her, he'll have a go at doing the deed no matter what age. If she crouches and sticks her bum in the air, then yes, she's ready and eggs should follow very soon. If you pick her up (if he'll let you) and put your hand underneath, you'll feel the pelvic bones. The gap between them also lets you know if she's ready to lay an egg. If it's 3-4 fingers wide then it's time, any less than that and it'll take a bit longer

          lol wasn't talking about the males... lol shoulda clarified ... It's the females who let it happen ie If she's receptive then yes, otherwise see the list for exceptions... lol (almost lost some coffee onto the screen and keyboard there G4 LOL

            Sorry 'bout that RT!

            I've had 2 (castrated male) horses who regularly got the urge, and one never seemed to have any trouble finding a willing female - so, my original comment still stands!
