Crowing at 7 weeks!!

Yes - one of my 7 week old bantams crowed today! Never had one start this early. Just a little squeak really, but he took up the position and repeated it several times just so I could have a really good look! He is a Light Sussex cross. How young have other people known cocks to crow?

Any time really from 6 weeks on. Not really a crow though - merely a squeak! lol.

I've a Vorwerk doing proper crowing at 10 weeks - need to gag him before the neighbours get really annoyed!

So far,out of five boys,only Pip is making any attempt to crow.He's a little Brahma Bantam.I think he started making attempts about three weeks ago,he's now 15 weeks.He's not loud yet,but I don't think we've got long!
The annoying thing is I don't think he'd fill a sarnie yet!

I hope mine don't start early. I've got enough problems keeping the hens quiet early morning. I thought they were quiet all day but a neighbour mentioned the bok bokking at 6am as they argue over the same nest box.

usually about 6 weeks they start to try and crow - a sort of really pathetic squeek.

saying that though, I have 12 week olds I know are boys but they haven't bothered yet!!

My Coco apparently tried at 9 weeks, though he didn't live with me then. His brother, Elvis, was nearer 20 weeks before we heard a peep out of him, and then he didn't make another sound for a month, it was (and still is) a weird sounding crow too, sort of as if he has a 60 a day habit. In fact Elvis has only just started crowing regularly and they're about 8 or 9 months old now.

We have Light sussex, copper maran and necked necks none of which are making any attempt to crow, they are 20 weeks plus,hoping they will surprise me one day.

This morning he was well & truly going for it!As soon as I let him out of the coop he stopped,but who knows what time he started?(other than houses backing onto the lottie)

Completely unrelated thought, but until we got our Rhodies and Gold-tops at about 8 weeks old I didn't know that young chickens made noises which more resembles 'proper' birds - y'know, the sort wot live in trees. It was a sound which made me all maternal though.
