I am happy to report that Lily is much better today. She has laid a soft egg in the night, which took care of one end and her crop has shrunk to one quarter the size of yesterday. Still feels a bit soft compared to others but she's eating and drinking this morning. When I bathed her yesterday she was very compliant. On picking her up today she said sod off i'm fine now. (OK struggled)
A sticky for useful information would be good but I very thankful that there are so many knowledgable folk like BP and others who are prepared to spend time helping us novices.
I will pop into vets today and try to get something to have in hand. He has only charged me for medication so far, although that could change at any time. Also get some live yogurt. I've got some fruity Alpro soya yogurt in the fridge, don't suppose that's any good?
Hospital were going to treat me with live maggots once. In the end I had an op and then treated with leeches. (Didn't work)
I gave live maggots to my girls as a treat when Pip had her distended crop (it was a permanent thing with her) and I think it helped - they definitely liked them! The man in the local fishing shop gave them to me free when he knew they were for ex-batts. I keep meaning to go back for some but just can't bring myself to do it again! They really were repulsive!
Oh - DJ - I Use live yoghurt, it does seem to help a little, it doesn;t cure it but helps...........................................
.
It's also really funny to watch them dive head first into a pot of yogurt and run around trying to shake the whiteness from there heads!!!!!!!
My Majesty made for him a garden anew in order to present to him vegetables and all beautiful flowers.- Offerings of Thutmose III to Amon-Ra (1500 BCE)
I think the maggots are for compacted crops - they help break the tangled fibres down.
I feed them a preventative measure with the other 3 gals after I lost Hendrix because of a sour crop (orginating from a compacted crop) some time back. I don't know if it worked but it took the other mind of missing Henni too much and their still alive.
This is how I imagine colonic irrigation would be............but at the opposite end!
LOL Snag - just imagine all the posh / fashionista ladies running around the beauty-parlor with foaming b*ms cos someone put baking soda in the mix - LOL
