Anti vandal paint BM, paint it on wherever you think they are getting in - if of course its not too inconvenient for other users and yourselves - that stuff doesn't wash off and will be visable to all for months - and the police know exactly what it looks like.

I really really feel for you, you obvioulsy have something that the person attacking you is jelous of, there would be no other reason to do it. I hope its all sorted soon and the silver lining is none of your birds were hurt, bits of wood and metal can be repaired/replaced!

Btw - hen came back as soon as it started to rain!

Having an allotment ourselves I feel for you. it is always difficult for me to think of leaving them up their to fend for themselves, but unfortunately dont have a garden they could be thrive in.

I suppose it could be kids with nothing better to do,

word of warning though, if you intend to paint vandal paint on anything put up a sign....as they can sue you for getting it on their clothes (what is the world coming to I ask)

Bluemonn - I know that sinking feeling when you get to the lottie and find the gates and doors open. This happened to me about 6 weeks ago. You may remember they took my little new girls who'd only been there 10 days but they had opened the hut where the ex-batts and older hens were so fox could easily have had them, Like you I am now fairly sure who was responsible. I have put lots of sharp wire and prickly plants - wild rose, brambles, teasel etc and plan to plant more over the winter. We have anti-climb paint on the gates of the site but if its someone with access there's not much you can do. Don't give up your chooks - I felt like that and am just about rallying again.
        Keep your chin up. (((Hugs)))

Jennie - so pleased your girl came back.

Well OH has phoned and says everything is properly secured again. Part of one house will have to be replaced, but we have some wood left over from when they were built, it just means him cutting a piece to size and treating it, but for now things are fine. He took photos on his mobile before he fixed things, and says the chickens themselves don't seem too traumatized, he's already collected five eggs and says he'll be home as soon as Dotsie comes out of the nest-box as he thinks there will be a sixth. He's also spoken to a chap from about four plots down who has had no damage or thefts, but arrived to find his gate, which is the size and shape of a door, was bolted from the inside and this confirms my suspicions as to how they accessed our plot.
The really weird part is that last night I had an early night, but got up after half an hour because I'd had a nightmare that something awful had happened to one of our chickens. The one I dreamed about though was Sir Samuel and he's the only one unaffected as he's currently in temporary accommodation at the other end of the plot. If I ever dream something like that again I'm off up there to check, no matter what the hour or how OH might complain!

Thank you Sue, at least mine are still there and are all OK, I don't know what I'd do if anything happened to them.

I'm sat here shaking my head in utter disbelief, why do some people take great pleasure in causing others so much distress is beyond me, and to think it might have been someone off your own sight is even worse, lets hope something nasty happens to them!!
I'll send you a big ((((((((HUG)))))))), have you told the police about this, and the time before, i'll be honest it sound's a bit fishy that its only your lotty, chin up Bluemoon, it's nothing that can't be fixed, and your girl's & boy's are OK thats the main thing...xxxxx

BlueMoon, I'm so sorry to hear of your distressing news.

I just can't understand the mentality of people who think things are "just a bit of Fun" - or even malicious intent.

I'm glad your chickens are safe and well and not too traumatized! It's fortunate your hubbs was able to go make repairs to the chicken house too!

I hope the perpertrators are put to justice soon.

Bramble, glad to hear your wandering 'star' returned!

Hi Bluemoon sorry to hear your news. I have two allotments now on the road I live on as one is at the bottom of the allotments near the brook(as you live near me you'll know may know where I mean) last winter January time I started stocking up I even bought a little plastic greenhouse cost about £50 the plot below me was normally empty and very very overgrown. Last summer the allotment owner let the bottom plot to someone who had a small horse who chewed holes into the privet that seperates us. The horse owner left and took his door with him(privets are 9ft high allotments are in one long line) I was broken into through the holes in the privet and the greenhouse was kicked over a few onions pulled out. I picked everything up and replaced the onions week later I got there and the greenhouse had been burnt to a crisp. I got fed up of going to the allotment and let it go to pot a little. The allotment owner has let me take the very top plot I have cleared this now but it upset me a lot when the bottom one was vandalised I will clear the bottom one again as I am ready to do so but i put a lot of work into it and it gutted me and put me off. DOnt give up it's worth it
