  • Two Eggs in Five Minutes!

Shirley Partridge, my Partridge Wyandotte, has finally realised that she is a chicken and should be laying eggs. It's taken her nearly 29 weeks, so she must have been under the impression she had some catching up to do.

Last Sunday I found a soft-shelled egg of a pale pink colour and guessed it was hers. We had nothing more until yesterday. I was out so my DD phoned to say that Shirley had been in the nestbox and produced one small but normal egg. She then started making the loudest noises imaginable and running around the garden like a chicken possessed. DD said she (Shirley, not DD) then came to a sudden halt and dropped another egg! This second egg is almost perfectly round and a lot smaller than the first.

We know both eggs were Shirley's as all of the others had laid by then. Anyone else had this oddness?

Nope, not me, but when they're new to laying I suppose anything's possible!

I posted about this, I think it was last week; one of ours laid two large, but soft shelled ones within 20 minutes, and we know it was her because neither was laid in the nest box and we saw her, she's only just coming into lay too. She doesn't lay nearly as often as the others, but when she does they're now normal shelled, double yolkers. The general opinion was that her system just needs to settle down.
Into each life some rain must fall........but this is getting ridiculous.

I had all sorts of strange goings on when mine first came in to lay- even a triple yolker! It's all settled down now into some sort of normality, makes it exciting though, you just don't know what you are going to find.
