  • getting frustrated

well, its been nearly 24 hours now and my four turkey eggs that have pipped so far havent got much further.

i know it can take them ages and these birds are as dumb as a box of rocks but the urge to evict them must be eating up jennie by now!!

all i can do is keep the incy warm and the humidity right. even though i have hatched literally hundreds of eggs this year, hatches are always exciting - especially as everyone one of these turkeys counts!

anyone else get soooo excited at this point?

At the stage where you just HAVE to look every 5 minutes as well as saying "cheep cheep" to them? Oh yes
My girls found their way into my heart and now they nest there

Do Turkeys cheep in the egg?I sung the Chirpie Cheep song to Boo(Last night I heard my mamma singing this song...who~ay)...don't know if it speeded up the process but I got a cheep each time!...still gets excited if I sing it!
Hope they're out soon...the anxious wait is the very reason we didn't plan on using an incy again.
Glass or two of wine helps also!!!

we now have three - two slates and a bronze, though the bronze is a bit wobbly on their pins. i am hoping he doesnt have spradle leg. I have had a lot of that recently, and only when i use the manual brinsea. perhaps i need to revisit what goes in it!

as for merry christmas jules - i already have 11 young uns outside growing on, two chicks inside that hatched a couple of weeks ago and then these three

i know it might seem daft keep hatching them, but they fetch nothing at the auction as hatching eggs as no-one wants slates as they are a single breasted bird, they all want the kelly bronzes or the double breasted monsters, and it seems a shame to feed them to the dog!

so i hatch them out, grow on what i want and move the rest on as poults at the auction as somehow poults sell but the eggs dont???

How much do the poults go for usually? Would poults sold at this time of year be ready for the *ahem* festive season?

Hey Bramble, we all keep hatching even though we have enough! I'm expecting a few more cream legbars off at the end of next week, and now one of my regular escapees (a light sussex bantam of course!) has decided to sit away somewhere, and I've not yet found the nest. I keep saying when I find it I shall destroy all the eggs as we do NOT need any more bantams, but will I be able to do it? We shall see ................!

There is just enough time to get these new hatchlings to table weight if you are not after a massive turkey.

Poults you buy at auction or from a breeder will usually be 6-8 weeks old and off heat so definatley enough time to grow on and have a good sized bird, they fetch around £5 - £10 per poult.

RH - tuttut - might steal a light sussex off you one of these visits, my old girl is 7 coming up 8 and I really will miss her, she was a great broody and a great mom.

Haven't got any pure breed LS hens to spare right now Bramble, only one little cock, but will bear you in mind if we get any more.

Maybe I'll be trying your turkeys next year.
