Well we've hatched a few chicks this year but I had to share these fluffy feet





This little girl (please be a girl...) hatched two nights ago. The rest of the batch didn't do so well but she has two others to keep her company now. They are lavender pekin batams as seen here:

I have chickens with fluffy legs and feet. Mine a cochins though.

She is a lovely pekin and my best guess without a close look is girl - pekins are easy to sex from even a day old if you know how!

Yeps, got an unrelated trio of black cochins, an unrelated trio of partridge cochins, buff cochins and hopefully very soon once I convince Mike that he wants to build another run I will have gold laced cochins.

But run building in our house is a very sore subject atm - in more ways than 1 - chiropractor is costing a fortune!!!

I like cochins too Matthew. Maybe next year for those when we have more space. We had a black cochin years ago but Mr Fox paid us an unwelcome visit.

Now, you know I've got to ask ... how?! Or is it easier to show a pic of all three? I'm leaving the other one egg ( 4/12 candled fertile) a few days just in case so there could be four but I'm not counting me chickens...

Ok so how - from very very early on a pekin make will have a comb, just a little on but the girls will not she will have nothing. It soulds easy but its not lots and lots of experience at looking at pekins heads!! But I have to say as of yet I've been wrong once - and we've hatched around 100 this year

Cochins are just the best - I love them soooo much, I would say that you can keep a cochin in a similar space to a pekin, bantams need more space cos they are more active!

Thanks. We've had a look but are disagreeing lol. I think it takes an experienced eye One isn't looking very well today. It still hasn't really picked up from hatching and it's a lot smaller the other two.

I like cochins but our garden is used for veg and with 3 hen houses, 2 quail homes and a duck area we've no space left . But we've got our allotment now so the veg can move and by next year we'll have space for more (and maybe even turkeys )
