  • Ex Battery Hen Rescue 12th September - homes needed

Robert and Linda from Free at Last are organising an ex-batt rescue on 12th September in the Milton Keynes area. The date's provisional at the moment, but it's likely to be around then.

If anyone is thinking of adopting some ex-batts, please phone Linda on 07900 234007, preferably after 6pm, so that she can give you more details. I wouldn't normally publish her phone number, but as it's on her own website, I'm assuming it's okay!

We got our three new girls from them a couple of weeks ago and they're amazing, so if they come from the same farm (which it sounds as if they will) then I can't rave about them enough. They're amazingly tame, goodness knows why after what they've been through, but they just seem to love people - one of them literally jumps on my lap if I sit down in the run. They've been laying in the nest boxes from day 1 and put themselves to bed from the second night onwards.

If anyone does end up adopting some because of this thread then please let me know, it would be a really good feeling to be indirectly responsible for a few more girls finding their freedom.

Hashette, yes it's a brilliant feeling when you've been indirectly responsible for re-homing some ex-batts. At the last count, I was up to around the 50 mark (that I know of) and that's not counting the pressure I put onto HayleyB to get hers last year
My girls found their way into my heart and now they nest there

Bugger bugger bugger!!!! I'd love to rescue more, but with the grown girls and the chicks, I have 25 as it it is!!
My run just isn't big enough for more Good thing the cocks are being culled when big enough, cos I couldn't keep 25 full grown birds. 20 is my maximum amount.

Luckily I'm away that weekend, and I have no room - phew!

Will go for Batties again when the time comes though!

I'm getting some hatching eggs tomorrow... so I expecting to be maxed out after they hatch.... sorry.

G4 - you sure I cannot build you that double story extension to your coop? ( only teasing)

I did hint to my MK friends about the rescue, but as they've literally got a pocket-handkerchief sized garden with a huge telescope in it as well as 3 cats and a dog, I think their ears weren't hearing what I was saying! I'll keep on talking though

                          Thanks BFG

Maureen, on the plus side, they'd never have to weed their garden again!

Hayley - go on, go on, go ON

Aren't you putting in a two storey extension on G4s coop, anyway mine's a stable. I know Robert and Linda and the last load I had were the friendliest little things, Dropsy who died a couple of weeks ago was from that batch...
