Sorry, Polly, as far as I know it's just a local one - actually Milton Keynes rather than Cambridgeshire, but I'll check

They normally have the collection as Carphone Warehouse carpark at Kingston, MK, which is a bit of a pain as they actually live closer to me than MK.Hayley B

Hello all. "FREE AT LAST" here. Firstly, our thanks to Vicky.
Yep, we do meet at the Carphone Warehouse, M.K. but we do meet at other places as well. We did use the picnic site at Brogborough just off junction 13, M1. But this is no more due to road works. The meetings at Carphone Warehouse were really for the convenience of the new owners as it is just a short run from the M1 and is on the A421. Our next meeting will take place at a different place, nearer to Buckingham. If any one is interested please call Linda on 07900234007 for more information. There will be up to 150 hens available for re-homing in the next four weeks and Linda is working hard on this list.
When we get the rescued ladies they are about 72 weeks old. They come in varying stages of "undress" but on the whole not in too bad condition. They are very fast learners and soon win your hearts. Their feathers start to grow back almost straight away, their faces and combs turn a healthy red , and they could possibly carry on laying. But if you want hens for eggs, then these ladies may not be for you. They are deemed to be at the end of their productive egg laying life, which is the reason the farmer is "getting rid" of them.
Our total, so far, is 4,611 hens rescued.

Hi Robert welcome to the madvine, I wish I could help again (had 10 last time don't know if you'd remember) but I'm a bit too close to the DEFRA limit for comfort, when a few more of my ex-batts laydees pass on then I'll be in touch prontoHayley B

You wouldn't recognise number 57 (Henrietta Houdini) after just a couple of weeks, her back's already covered in embryonic little feather shafts

Good for anyone getting ex batts, I did try before getting my girls but they never answered emails or phone calls. However, I am hopefully getting 4 more girls in Oct time, from a local farm who basically is a bit of a battery farm. The farmer sells them on at 25p each to be chopped up into cat food!!!!!!!!! I have to have some can't let it happen!Last edited by MrsC; 31-08-2009, 07:28 PM.

Sorry for not posting these last few days, my PC packed up last week so I decided to upgrade into the 21st century and go wireless with a laptop et al!
It was all delivered yesterday and it took me ages to sort it all out. I still haven't got the printer up and working though!
As far as laying is concerned we always say thet if you want eggs then ex-batts are not for you. If they do lay then that is a nice bonus. Our aim is to get these poor creatures out of the living hell they endure and into new loving homes where they will become part of the family and treated as pets.
The rescue on the 12th is now full, but Linda is working on the next which will be two weeks later (probably).
If anyone is thinking of a few ex-batts please ring Linda on 07900234007, after 6 p.m. any day for advice and help.
Thanks all for reading this.

What a shame that is.Suppose they all have different ways of doing things.
There are only the two of us but we respond as quickly as possible to queries.Hope you have a better experience next time. Shame you are so far from "FREE AT LAST!" eh?
