  • Have to confess..........!

Did a cock swap with a breeder in Norfolk today (one of my cream legbars for one of her Welsummers). Went down with the carrier and my OH. Resolved not to come back with anything except a cock. Then OH takes a fancy to some Minorca youngsters (they were pretty smart I have to say) .................... I think you can guess the rest!

Just the one pullet though. Just to lay some nice white eggs to go in my coloured boxes next Spring.

Note for Snadger: The lady I got the pullet from said she has never had trouble with frostbite on the comb, ever. So you may not need to worry about yours.

I have a week off work as from now so shall still progress with the construction of my 'winter quarters' I think. It will always come in handy for my broodies clutch if they hatch ok anyway.

Congratulations on your new arrival, is she laying yet? Mine haven't layed even though they were bought as POL. They appear to have put on weight and grown a wee bit since I got them though and the black with the pearlescent green sheen showing through is stunning.. Very muscular, they are very deceptive and look lighter than they really are. Mine are a bit flighty and have short tight feathering so I don't think I will chance them outdoors 'upnorth'
The white earlobes on mine are looking a bit dirty so I may catch them tomorrow and give them a bit of a clean.

No Snadge, she's not laying. Won't until the Spring. She's only a youngster, hatched in June. Very pretty though and looks promising. I know what you mean about the green sheen. She has that, and is quite weighty for her little frame. And lovely long legs!
