It's worming powder for chooks Bernie.

I've tried Vermex and it's not favourite, so I decided to invest in Flubenvet. It's got an excellent reputation.

Well I just went to tuck the girls in and gave each of them their first raspberry as a bed-time treat. They nearly had my fingers off! Tomorrow I shall stuff flubenvet into the raspberries. I love it when my animals take their medicine without fuss

I'm not so pleased with the no-see-ums that have feasted on me while I was in the garden though

How often should I do this and where do I get it from?

You can buy Flubenvet on line from most poultry equipment suppliers, or possibly from your local feed merchant. If you only have a few chooks then the smaller pack will be enough. For lots of chooks get the bigger pack. Recommended dosing is 3 - 4 times a year. Treatment as per tub instructions, but basically mix with feed for 7 consecutive days. No need to withdraw eggs, they will still be fine to eat.

Thanks. My girls are only around 11 weeks old. How old should they be for their first worming?

              Dexter,

I paid £12.01 inc p&p for the small 60g size from Animal Medicines

It arrived the day after I ordered.

You can worm from as young as 3 weeks, but I don't generally do them for the first time until they are at least 8 weeks, so it will be fine to worm yours now, at 11 weeks.

When you get birds in from somewhere else it's always advisable to worm them as a precautionary measure. Then at least you know they are clear.

Dose isn't too critical as you can use Flub at double strength for gapeworm ...

As I suspected, it doesn't mix too well with pellets. Not sure if my pellets are too smooth, but despite mixing it in gradually as advised on the Flub pack, the powder stayed at the bottom of the bucket.

I'm going to get some layers mash...I can just buy 2 or 4 kg from my local agg suppliers.

Some people coat their pellets with a little cod liver oil to help it sticj Jules.

It did take a lot of mixing, but ours did eventually mix & cling to dry pellets.

Thank you for this, considerably cheaper than the first lot I bought, roughly the same price for the actual stuff, but then there was a big charge for the P&P.
Into each life some rain must fall........but this is getting ridiculous.

I only paid £12 for 240gm of Flubenvet from a local equestrian place. I have tried all methods, grape, small amout of tinned sweetcorn, pellets and in a porridgy mix. All work fine. I do have big problem with tapeworm and have to worm monthly. I've tried everything and can't eradicate it completely from the ground so guess the wild birds and snails etc around here are heavily infested. The chicks are only 9 weeks old and are nearly due for a second worming. I dose with what fits on the tip of a sharp knife for each bird for 7 days.

Mine got their first dose tonight on a raspberry each. No probs at all.

I love the feeling of their warm breath on my fingers/hand when I hand feed them
