I've just been and had a little look at my girls and boys- I'm so lucky nothing has happened to them so far...I'm really very, very sorry for you Kirsty- you've been a fantastic mum to them all.
It'd be a real shame to give up the chooks now- although I understand your reasoning.
What are you planning on doing with the old gals? A few cuddles will help them and your daughter - and you.
My thoughts are with you all- and especially your nephew

Big hug lass xx...hope you feel better soon x

So sorry to hear about this. Like the others though, I agree your family are more important. It doesn't stop me crying like a baby when I lose one, and I've eaten some of mine but that somehow seems different. Don't let yourself feel bad and guilty though, we have all made mistakes at times. I have been out in my garden in my nightgown and wellies at 4am before now because I suddenly woke up and remembered I hadn't locked the girls in.
I have to say that my two girls have dealt better with the deaths this year than I have. They seem very resilient. (we had a few inbred problems i think) so hopefully it won't be too painful or long lasting for you and your family.
              Good luck whatever you decide
              Bright Blessings

I'm sure your little nephew wouldn't want you to be upset about going to see him and not your girls first. Family is very important Kirsty and he so rightly came first, though that is no consolation for what has happened, the shock must have been devastating for you and that's something I wouldn't wish on my worst enemy, my heart goes out to you and your little one.
You'll have heard the saying "Things happen for a reason", although there's no reason for what has happened, if that makes any sense, I'm sure in time you'll be able to make better decisions with regards to you chooks you still have, but for now don't do anything you might regret later, your 5 ladies you have left I'm sure will help both you and your little one come to term's with what has happened, big, big hugs to all of you. xx

Oh Kirsty that's just awful - I don't know what to say, I can only echo what everyone else has said. Don't blame yourself, it's not your fault - nature can be very cruel, as you well know.

Aww Kirsty, that is horrible news.

What a dreadful day you're having. I hope your nephew is improving now.

Your ex-bats will probably welcome a day or two of quiet to recover their equanimity.

I hope you figure out where the fox got in tomorrow.
